The ancient name of the country was Mazzarelli, at the end of the XVI century next to the old port, Cabrera Tower was built for defensive purposes, and a few decades later, it had already formed a household; of this, however, did not prosper and are not enlarged very much (also because of the nearby marshes at the mouth of the river Irminio dried up in 800) and his fortune came only at the end of the XIX century, when was born the trade of stone pitch with the English, and carob.
In 1928, for the will of the hierarch fascist Filippo Pennavaria, the name became the current Marina di Ragusa. After the war period, Marina di Ragusa experienced a real boom in housing, due to the unleashing of the fashion of the "second house on the sea" by ragusa; this expansion continues today and has led the village to become a resort town of the first class.

The old port of Marina was known since the times of the byzantine general Belisarius and was equipped with a caricatoio during the FIFTEENTH-century defensive tower (the Tower Cabrera) in the SEVENTEENTH century. It was located where today is Piazza della Dogana. In 800 he was born a second landing, locally known with the name of Scalo Trapanese as the ships coming from Trapani followed the sicilian coast up to the Marina and then change course towards the island of Malta. Here will be realized the first arm to a port in the '50s, but then the work will stop.

Marina di Ragusa,
historically also known as "fishing village" along the two promenades (Lungomare Andrea Doria and the Mediterranean Seafront, known erroneously as the Waterfront Old because of the proximity to the core housing original, although it was built after the Andrea Doria) with the passing of the years has given rise to numerous activities, restaurants, and hotels.
In 2009 she was assigned to Marina di Ragusa with the blue flag by the Fee, together with the nearby Pozzallo. In 2010 both locations confirm the award in the previous year, resulting in two of the four best beaches of Sicily (according to the standard Fee).

The new port of Marina di Ragusa was designed in the late eighties, but for bureaucratic reasons, the works were blocked.
Thanks to the funds of the european Union, the project was refinanced, and the jobs are began on 11 April 2006. The port is located in the old "scalo trapanese", which has been incorporated in the new building.
The first two boats to enter in the new marina were two boats on the maltese who arrived in Marina di Ragusa on July 3, 2009. On July 10, 2009 in the presence of the authorities was first opened to the tourist port of Marina di Ragusa, which became fully operational.
